『VESSEL – XYZXY』(2016)は、小山泰介が初めて「身体」をモチーフに制作した作品です。彫刻家、名和晃平と振付家、ダミアン・ジャレによるパフォーマンス作品『VESSEL』から派生した本作は、名和とのコラボレーションによって制作され、『あいちトリエンナーレ2016 トランス・ディメンション』展で発表されました。本作で小山は、パフォーマーの身体を3Dスキャニングした画像データを用いて、デジタル・イメージに変換された「器としての身体」にリアリティは宿るのかということをテーマに、コンピュータでシミュレーションされた3D空間でパフォーマーの身体の角度や位置、光源を調整し、そのキャプチャー画像をプリントアウト、さらにそのプリントをハンドスキャナーで再スキャンして作品化しました。タイトルの「XYZXY」は3D空間と2D画像の座標軸を表しています。パリを拠点とするRROSE EDITIONSとの共同出版によって発行される本書は、シルバーとブラックの２色で印刷され、光の反射によってシルバーの光沢感が変化する美しい仕上がりとなっています。

“VESSEL-XYZXY” (2016) is a piece created by Taisuke Koyama for the first time to focused on ‘body’ as a motif. This series produced in collaboration with Japanese sculptor Kohei Nawa and derives from the performance piece “VESSEL” by Nawa and french/belgian choreographer Damien Jalet. In this work, Koyama explored whether a reality exists wherein ‘the body as vessel’ has been transformed into a digital image, using the 3D scanned data of performer’s bodies. Specifically, Koyama finely adjusted the angle, position and lighting of the 3D data in the space simulated by the 3D modeling software. The captured image of simulated data is then printed out and re-scanned with handheld scanner. In the group exhibition “AICHI TRIENNALE 2016 TRANS DIMENSION”, Koyama exhibited 18 pieces of 6.6-meters-long prints of this series. The title ‘XYZXY’ refers to the coordinate axes of a two-dimensional image and three-dimensional space. This book is co-published by Paris-based RROSE EDITIONS and taisuke koyama project. The prints has a shiny appearance because it’s printed in richly silver and black ink.

写真家・小山泰介は2008年発表の『entropix』以降、一貫して都市と自然の境界を写真で捉え、また制作を通じて写真という枠組みを拡張し、デジタル時代の写真のあり方を問う実験的な試みを行ってきました。本写真集は、小山が2009年から制作している『Rainbow Variations』を初めてまとめた作品集となります。虹色の広告ポスターを接写した「人工物としての虹」の写真を変化させ、反覆的に増幅させることを試みる作品『Rainbow Variations』に、新作「Pico」を加えた約70点を収録しています。また本作品集ではスイス人デザイナーデュオ・Maximageとのコラボレーションにより編集・デザインが行われました。

Ever since he published “entropix” in 2008, Taisuke Koyama has been consistently capturing the boundary between urban cities and nature. Through his practice, he has been expanding the framework of photography and exploring experimental expressions that question the ways in which photography exists in the digital age. This book is a first anthology introducing “Rainbow Variations”, a series which Koyama has been working on since 2009. It includes comprises 70 images, including “Rainbow Variations” in which he tries to transform and iteratively amplify the photographic images of a “rainbow as an artefact” created by macro-photographing rainbow-colored publicity posters, as well as his newest series “Pico”., The book was edited and designed in collaboration with Swiss designer duo, Maximage.

この度G/P galleryより日本人若手写真家を代表する小山泰介の新作『COLLECTED PHENOMENA / WORKS: 2006 – 2013』を発売いたします。
1978年生まれの小山泰介は2008年に写真集『entropix』を発表後、国内外での個展、アートフェアで国際的な人気を博し、近年瀬戸内国際芸術祭への参加や大邱での国際写真展などでも広く知られています。本年10月にはイタリアの写真都市・モデナにて初の海外個展が開催され、その後はロンドンでの長期滞在制作活動に入るなど、ますます精力的に活動しています。
この度発表するリミテッド・エディション・ブックは、2006年の初期作品から2013年に制作された最新作までを網羅したB4版・400ページに及ぶ豪華版です。全ページが美術展示用のピグメントプリントで制作されており、大型写真集の形をしたアーピースとなっています。
